Review

I love Billy Wilder. I love Jack Lemmon. I love Tony Curtis. I love Marilyn Monroe. This film was so funny and so good. I really do love Wilder's directorial style. During dialogue in particular it stands out. I love how he frequently will get shots that include several of the characters in the scene so we can get all their reactions to something someone's saying. Without it just feeling like a stageplay where we all line up and talk in a weird way to each other.

The snappy dialogue makes things feel so natural. Not necessarily because it's what somebody would actually say in a given situation. But it's friendly and bouncy and feels like how you think about speaking with friends. (Lemmon's and Curtis' dialogue with each other being the big highlight here.)

And again, I cannot overstate, this movie is incredibly funny. The last line from Osgood of "Well, nobody's perfect" had me, Alex, and Tyler all laughing. But we've also got some real good social commentary going on along with that humor. How women are treated vs men in day-to-day interactions.

This was just really great and had me smiling through much of the film. I can see why Marilyn was skyrocketing to stardom.
