Army of Darkness (1992)

Review

Smile on face! Smile on face!

Sam Raimi really said "I will move heaven and Earth to construct a scenario where a buncha skeletons are sieging a castle." And he was right for that. I was actually a little bit cold on Army of Darkness for the first like 40 or so minutes. I'm speaking on a curve, of course. So I was openly smiling for much of it, just not laughing. Evil Dead 2 had me by the throat. Constantly cackling for the entirety of its runtime. Army of Darkness was more subdued in its laughs. It was more continuously absurd. Rather than having peaks of hilarity. But I think once we really get into it, especially once we're in the main event. That aforementioned surge. We find our stride and all becomes clear. Ash is beloved. I enjoy that he went from just a guy to a total insane maniac over the space of about 2-3 days.
