Twilight (2008)

Review

As an enlightened being, I can assure everyone that I do not care what the tween girls are into. It was barely any of my business when I was their age. It sure as shit ain't my business now. So just putting that out on front street that I don't think Twilight is some malign presence that we need to tear down. It really wasn't terrible.

The difference was stark, though. We watched Army of Darkness and Twilight in succession. Alex had felt we needed to experience these and appreciate them in a Neil Breen manner. There was a lot of funny acting going on, particularly in the first half. Lot of faces where I was really bewildered, wondering what direction was given. The only thing I recall seeing Kristen Stewart in is Panic Room (where I thought she did a pretty admirable job as a child actor). And I know with certainty that Robert Pattinson can act his ass off. So I'm putting this mostly down to direction. I did feel that the vampires were unfortunately uncool. Didn't care for the effects when they went quicksilver. That took away a good portion of interest. Because, like, if I don't even care about the immortals, what is there to do?

I don't really care about the teen melodrama. "Don't care" in the sense that it really didn't bother me. I found it funny, but the idea of it making me angry in any way is inconceivably alien. I think people's heads are deliriously empty and they walk around, knowing in some dim way that something is missing from them. That they're not fully conscious like others around them are. And so they just fill their empty skulls with bloviating anger because it's an easy base emotion to tap and the world is all too happy to provide you with just shit to fuel it. The whole tentpole reactionary insanity to Twilight feels like a mind virus. It just seems like the sort of thing that some minds are predisposed to. I've watched many movies. Some make me furious because of how fucking stupid and shit they are. They do something or other to try and trick and manipulate me. Or they're just such a shoddy fucking mess that I can't help but growl at the stupidity. Literally nothing in Twilight is that. It's a completely innocuous teen thing. It's literally whatever. You should not be having an emotion about it. It was a perfectly competent experience. I found plenty of it silly, but in no world was this some travesty.

I feel compelled by the utter wave of stupid hate to defend this thing that I don't remotely care about. Which is itself a form of reactionary bullshit that I shouldn't even engage in. It's all just stupid. We're all just so stupid. I'm tired of the Nothing. I'm tired of people's screaming. Frothing at the mouth at void. We are the machine; we need reality desperately. Something in us is broken. The Abstraction is driving us fucking insane. I think we would all be happier in the small semi-rural farming communities, where we all get together and have feasts whenever there's a wedding or holiday. Maybe we should all break our phones and cut the internet pipes.

Anyway Twilight was largely inoffensive whatever that I don't want more of, but don't particularly care because it's not for me.
