The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Review
Oh, this was great. Had never seen the ol Texas. Though I do have vague memories of seeing it on the wall of the Blockbuster and feeling fear. Such a svelte film. It's so purposeful and focused. Every line of dialogue is doing something. The sweltering heat of the Southern day is a great place to set such monstrosity. Love that the wretched leather man kills so quickly and brutally. No scare chord, just "ope, they're gone...".
The house was such horrible filth. The nauseating smell permeating through the screen was foul. And the utter insanity from its inhabitants...Very well-acted. My stomach dropped when I realized grampa was alive.
I really appreciated how hard Sally fought when she had the chance. You get the real sense that she is running for her life. The breaking through the window not once, but twice earned her so many points in my book. Hate hate hate when people in these situations go "guess I'll just die then". That we're wandering into other people's houses is wild. But it's the 70s so...But once it becomes clear that this is the real real, it really made me identify with her and root for her. That image of her having thrown her body through the window the second time after the night of horror. Absolutely covered in blood and limping. Who even knows what's sprained or broken. And she just keeps going. Great great.
